What is wrong with this generation???
I am so proud of them for standing up and speaking out! The nation wide walkout was so inspirational!!!
I planned a walkout once. I was in high school, and I caught wind that budget cuts were planning on getting rid of some of the best teachers. I was furious. My education did not need to be reduced in order to cut costs. I made up stickers at home with my cheap art supplies and wore one on my shirt the next day. I can't exactly remember my slogan, but it asked what my education was worth and a cut of teachers meant a cut in my education. Students asked me to make stickers for them. The next day I had a nice group of students wearing my cheap stickers. The vice voice principle asked me to remove mine. I refused. I had a right. A couple girls in my biology class were with me. One offered to make shirts and hand them out. Our teacher said we couldn't do that on school property. So we planned to talk to the farmer across the street. Another girl planned on calling the local news. We would protest and we were going to walk out. However, once word got around of our plans, the budget cut plan was changed. I was overjoyed.
These kids are doing that and so much more!!! Organizing for change. Protesting. Getting the word out. Registering to vote. Demanding change. I wish they were my kids. Even if a few in this generation eat tide pods.
However, my generation isn't having kids. Especially since we are struggling to adult thanks to what we have inherited. The millennials are looked down upon. We did this to ourselves and we dont work hard enough to earn it. We whine and complain. ugh.
See, how I see it. A few generations ago, the population got greedy. They started to earn things for themselves and once they earned it they wanted to hold onto it. Nothing wrong with that. Until they raised kids. I feel those kids tried to work as hard as their parents and sought to make them proud. Their parents were still only concerned about their own happiness. So the kids decided to have their own kids to have happiness, and to not do like their parents did, they decided to live through them. So they wanted their kids to win. They demanded the kids get awards for everything so they could go brag about them. My generation never wanted given awards. I don't know. It's just a thought.
I just wish I could have an average job, and could afford my student loans, and have a house, and be able to afford a couple kids, and my family take yearly vacations, and we don't struggle to save for emergencies or retirement.
Yet here I am, almost thirty. I have a college degree. I work 60 hours a week. I live in an apartment. Can't afford actual student loan payments. Can't afford to get a dog, let alone have a kid. I feel guilty if I take a vacation or do anything fun. I just started saving for retirement, but I live paycheck to paycheck.
How am I supposed to make it ahead like previous generations?
But I don't want to whine about my situation. Things need to change though. And my generation has long been told to stop whining. We made emo music to express our emotions instead.
This next generation isn't even allowed that, and Thank God they aren't having it. They have social media on their side. Myspace has turned into look at my face and my story will be in history books. I love it!!!
So much needs to change!!!
I want to make America great. I am so tired of the selfish of the generations before though. My generation and this generation need to stand up.
Not just for Gun reform.
But for equality in all genders.
Especially women's issues.
Especially for homosexual issues
Especially for trans issues.
Equality in race.
Especially in black issues.
Especially for Hispanics.
Especially for immigrants.
Human rights.
A decent wage.
A decent education opportunity.
Decent livability in general.
We need less poor.
Education system needs reform.
Police education needs reformed.
Mental health needs reformed.
Body image needs reformed.
Health system needs reform.
Our government leaders need reformed.
The majority of the population, my generation and the next, are growing in numbers. I think the next years are going to be tough while we fight for change and the old ways resist and want to go back. I'm tired of the rich upper class whites and businesses getting everything.
We will fight this tyranny, not with guns, but peacefully with protests, debates and votes. We can win!!!!
What's wrong with this generation???
We are ready for change.
